Did you know the average grocery store stocks more than 30,000 different items? A well-coordinated network of farmers, ranchers, processors, truckers and retailers are dedicated to making sure we have this abundant, safe food supply.

What do a truck driver, a rancher, a grocery store clerk, a logger, a futures broker, and a biotechnologist have in common? They all play an important role in making sure that Americans have access to a healthy and abundant supply of food, fiber, and natural resources.

American farmers and ranchers literally help feed the world by producing a bounty of agricultural products. To do this, they rely on essential partnerships with urban and suburban communities to supply, sell and deliver finished products across the country and around the globe. Rural and urban communities working together have made the most of our nation’s rich agricultural resources as they contribute to the health and well being of our country and to the strength of our economy.

November 18-24, 2011 is National Farm-City Week, a time where we recognize the importance of this cooperative network. Locally, we celebrate with the annual Farm City BBQ, an event that helps support our next generation of leaders with youth development programs through the Collier County 4H Foundation, the Leadership Collier Foundation and the Collier County Junior Deputy League… In past years, the BBQ has attracted as many as 1,000 local business leaders and farm families!

This year, the BBQ will feature:

• Displays from the local 4-H Clubs, Youth Leadership Collier and the Junior Deputies
• A raffle of prizes collected by Leadership Collier
• Vegetable Sale - Vegetables picked fresh and donated by Immokalee farmers will be available for $10
• The traditional menu of Grilled Steak, Corn on the Cob, Baked Beans, & Immokalee Salad

We need your support to ensure that our children can continue to learn about the agriculture industry and its importance to all of us. Proceeds from the Farm City BBQ benefit local youth programs at Collier County 4H Club Foundation, Leadership Collier Foundation and the Collier County Junior Deputy League.
